Middle School Students Grid and Enlarge

The middle school students were given a small segment of a well-known painting. They  drew a 1" grid on their segment, and enlarged it onto white paper 2 ½ times using another grid. They  colored  the gridded squares as accurately as possible using oil pastels. When done, the 36 different segments will be  assembled in the front hall to reveal the famous painting.

Middle School Learns About Jacob Lawrence

Sketching out initial ideas

Painting someone building a bowl

Painting the speaker addressing the audience
As the middle school students learn about the Harlem Renaissance, they are learning about the art of Jacob Lawrence in art class. Using his Migration Series as a jumping off point, they are working on a series of 31 painted panels telling the story of the Parker Empty Bowls event, from gleaning vegetables at Hancock Shaker Village to making bowls and soup. Each student is illustrating a specific topic that will tell the whole story when they are finished and displayed in sequence.

Middle School Name Designs

This year's locker identification art is monochromatic cursive names backed by black and white geometric designs. The students began by creating a stencil of their name, then traced that onto a bordered paper upon which they developed an eye-catching black and white design. This will assist with the which is whose in the halls.
